In the 1974/75 season, Fulham reached the FA Cup final for the first time in its history. In typical Fulham fashion, the longest and most difficult route was taken. No club before or since has played so many games to reach the FA Cup final. The first opponent in the FA Cup was Hull City and the first two games ended in a draw (1-1 and 2-2). The third game was won 1-0 by Fulham. In the next round Nottingham Forest was the opponent and Nottingham was drawn three times (0-0, 1-1 and 1-1). The fourth game ended in a 1–2 victory for Fulham. The next opponent in the FA Cup was won more easily by a 1-2 away win over Everton. Carlisle United also won 0-1 with a goal from Barrett. In the semi-final, Fulham drew 1-1 against Birmingham City and in the replay Fulham scored in the last minute of extra time.
