This sock design is a nod to the beautiful Telstar ball design from Adidas. The Telstar was the official match ball during the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany (Telstar Durlast), and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia (Telstar 18). The ball is designed and marketed by Adidas. The ball is iconic with black and white face pieces, so it was clearly visible on black and white televisions. How smart! Fun fact: Telstar was the name of a communications satellite that broadcast the football matches at the time.
