The 1974 World Cup was the tenth tournament between the national men's teams of countries affiliated with FIFA. The final of the 1974 World Cup was between host country West Germany and the Netherlands. The final was won 1-2 by the host country. The final was played in the Olympiastadion in Munich. After only 2 minutes Johan Neeskens fired a penalty kick hard past goalkeeper Sepp Maier. West Germany, led by captain Franz Beckenbauer, knew how to deal with a deficit and after 25 minutes the score was level again. Just before half-time Gerd Muller scored the winning goal. For West Germany it was the second world title.
