Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, also known by its short name Grêmio, is a Brazilian football club from Porto Alegre. The club was founded on September 15, 1903. In the Netherlands mainly known because the club played the World Cup final against Ajax in 1995. In 1971 the current national competition started in Brazil. In the 1970s, the club finished in fifth place twice. In these years the foundation was laid for the golden eighties. In 1981 the club became national champion and in 1983 Gremio won the Copa Livertadores.
